Research Interests:

Dr Malcolm Garland is a Senior Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He qualified in 1990 and trained in internal medicine for four years before turning to Psychiatry. He trained in various posts in General Adult and Liaison Psychiatry before being appointed to his current post in 2004.

His research interests include Psycho-neuroimmunology and essential fatty acids. In the latter respect his work has focussed on deficits in omega-3s in psychiatric patients and how supplementation can help mental health. His most recent publication is a randomised controlled trial in self-harming patients. Like Dr Richardson, his work has been bedevilled by lack of funding.
